We greatly appreciate the invited commentary of Dr Feng [1] regarding our article "Endothelium-Dependent Vasoconstriction in Isolated Vessel Grafts: A Novel Mechanism of Vasospasm?" [2]. Dr Feng's comments are very helpful in putting the mechanism outlined in our study into the greater context of relaxing and vasoconstricting mechanisms in the vessel wall. Unfortunately, Dr Feng misinterpreted 1 critical detail of our study design. This led him to state that the use of norepinephrine-preconstricted vessels distracts from the main theme of the study. We would like to clarify that the vessels that were used to investigate the constricting properties of YC-1 were not preconstricted. Instead, YC-1 was added to the vessels at their resting tensions, and YC-1–induced constrictions did not depend on previous or concomitant constriction with another substance. Therefore the YC-1 dose-response curves of our study provide the information that Dr Feng requests in his comment. Vessels were preconstricted with norepinephrine in only 1 type of experiment that was designed to demonstrate the vasorelaxing properties of YC-1.
