2008 Meeting Southern Thoracic Surgical Association

The Fifty-fifth Annual Meeting of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association was held at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas, November 5–8, 2008. The President was John Hammon, MD (Winston-Salem, NC). Officers elected for the coming year are as follows: President, Michael Mack, MD (Dallas, TX); President Elect, Keith Naunheim, MD (Saint Louis, MO); and Vice President, Meredith Scott, MD (Shell, WY). Also elected this year was Councilor, Jeffrey Jacobs, MD (Saint Petersburg, FL). The following applicants were elected to membership:

John Stulak, MD, received the President's Award for best scientific paper presented at the 2007 meeting for his paper titled "Restoration of Sinus Rhythm by the Maze Procedure Halts Progression of Tricuspid Regurgitation After Mitral Surgery." The 2007 Hawley H. Seiler Resident's Award was presented to Tara Karamlou, MD, for her paper and presentation titled "National Practice Patterns for Management of Adult Congenital Heart Disease: Operation by Congenital Surgeons Decreases In-Hospital Mortality."

The Fifty-sixth Annual Meeting will be held at the Marriott Marco Island Golf Club and Spa in Marco Island, Florida, November 4–7, 2009. Co-Chairs of the 2009 Program Committee are John Ikonomidis, MD, and Bryan Meyers, MD. Co-Chairs of the 2009 Postgraduate Committee are Mark Krasna, MD, and Ara Vaporciyan, MD. Chair of the 2009 Membership Committee is Robert Jones, MD.
