The editor warmly welcomes these two editorials [1, 2] that address issues of definition and collegial communication early in the evolution of minimally invasive prosthetic heart valves. The essayists have many disagreements, but more importantly the dialogue has begun. Cooperation and communication will eventually achieve a consensus that transcends special interests and benefits all parties, particularly patients. These essays and the "heart team" concept represent an initial handshake.
