The Workforce on Annual Meeting Program Task Force was pleased with the response to this year's abstract call, receiving 818 abstract and surgical video submissions. The high quality of the abstract submissions made it possible for the Workforce to develop a program that represents all aspects of adult and congenital cardiac and general thoracic surgery.
On Monday afternoon, there will be five Parallel Surgical Forums titled "Adult Cardiac," "General Thoracic," "Congenital Cardiac," "Practice Management Symposium," and "Patient Safety Symposium." These Forums will run from 1:30 PM–3:30 PM.
On Tuesday afternoon, there will be five Parallel Surgical Forums that will run from 1:45 PM–5:30 PM. The five Parallel Surgical Forums will be "Adult Cardiac I," "Adult Cardiac II," "General Thoracic I," "General Thoracic II," and "Congenital."
The popular Breakfast Sessions will be held Tuesday morning. The topics include STS National Database: Adult Cardiac; STS National Database: General Thoracic; STS National Database: Congenital; Update on Mechanical Circulatory Support in Children Encompassing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO); Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy; Image Guided Intervention for Thoracic Surgery; "Valve on a Stick"—Endovascular Valve for Use on the Aortic Side of the Heart Which is Presently Being Marketed in Europe; Stent Grafting—Descending Stent Graft for Descending Dissections. At the Present Time This Type of Grafting is in Flux; Thoracic Abdominal Stent Grafting; Hybrid Repairs of the Transverse Aortic Arch; Destination Therapy; and Congenital Heart Surgery in the Adult. Visit www.sts.org for further details. Space is limited for the Breakfast Sessions. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
Due to the popularity of the new Movie Matinees, The Workforce on Annual Meeting Program Task Force has once again developed an excellent program for three separate Matinees; one for each of the three subspecialties Adult Cardiac, General Thoracic and Congenital. Surgical Motion Pictures will be shown Monday afternoon at the Convention Center from 4:15 PM–5:15 PM.
Scientific Posters will be displayed on the second floor lobby of the convention center. Attendees are encouraged to view the Scientific Posters during session breaks to gain knowledge of the innovative research being done in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. All subspecialties of thoracic surgery education will be represented in the Scientific Poster area. Poster authors will be present during the lunch breaks on Monday and Tuesday to answer any questions you may have regarding poster content.
Continuing the success of STS University, there will be 12 courses to include didactic lectures and hands-on labs. The STS U Courses will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 7 AM–10:00 AM. The hands-on labs include Valve Sparing Aortic Root Replacement; Endoscopic Management of Barrett's Esophagus; Advanced Skills Set for Cardiothoracic Residents; Thoracoscopic Lobectomy; Tracheobronchial Interventions: New Tools for the Thoracic Surgeon; Mitral Valve Repair: Minimally Invasive Approaches and Repair Techniques; Atrial Fibrillation Surgical Ablation: Concomitant and Stand-Alone–Why, How and Results; Mechanical Circulatory Support for Cardiogenic Shock; New Technology, Hybrid Procedures and Transplantation; Advanced Coronary Techniques; Cardiopulmonary Bypass and New Perfusion Techniques; and RFA, Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Brachytherapy: Methods to Treat NSCLC in Patients With Co-Morbidities That Prevent Lobectomy.
Attendees must pre-register for STS University Courses. Hands-on labs will have limited workstation accommodations, so pre-registration is required. For more information on STS University, please visit www.sts.org.
