Announcement

Editorial Board Changes

Several changes have taken place in the editorial board since our last report. As of February 2008, Dr W. Gerald Rainer stepped down as Associate Editor for Surgical Heritage after 21 years of outstanding service on the editorial board. He served as a board member from 1987–2001 and then assumed the Surgical Heritage section duties in 2001. He contributed greatly to the growth of The Annals during this long and distinguished service.

In May 2007, Dr Kenneth M. Steinglass and Prof Peter Goldstraw retired from practice and from their editorial board posts. Prof Goldstraw served 5 years representing the United Kingdom and as an expert in general thoracic surgery on the editorial board. Dr Steinglass managed the Key References section of The Annals first in his capacity as Chairman of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons' (STS) Committee on Education and Resources from 2000–2002 and subsequently as Associate Editor for Key References from 2002–2007.

In the second half of 2007, Dr John G. Byrne resigned as an Associate Editor for Feature Articles because of other commitments. Drs Pedro J. del Nido, Craig R. Smith, and Thoralf M. Sundt III, left the editorial board after approximately 7, 2, and 6 years of service, respectively.

We appreciate the time and expertise of these outstanding contributors to The Annals.

Dr John V. Conte (Baltimore, MD) and Dr Thomas J. Vander Salm (Salem, MA) joined the board as editorial board member and Associate Editor for Feature Articles, respectively, in 2007.

We also welcome Drs Tomislav Mihaljevic (Cleveland, OH), Marc Ruel (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada), Glen S. Van Arsdell (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), and Thomas K. Waddell (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) who joined the editorial board in 2008.

Dr Nicholas T. Kouchoukos (St. Louis, MO), STS Historian, assumed the duties of Associate Editor for Surgical Heritage in 2008.

On behalf of the cardiothoracic community, we extend our gratitude to the past and present editorial board members for their dedication and efforts in helping working surgeons serve their patients better by making The Annals of Thoracic Surgery better.
