I read with interest the article concerning management of a severe caustic stricture necessitating partial laryngectomy and pharyngo-colostomy [1]. A different surgical approach, only once previously described, may be considered as an alternative [2]. At this operation, the colon was brought retrosternally and anastamosed to the side of the cheek. The patient soon learned to swallow by pushing food to the side of the mouth. This alternative approach may lessen morbidity.
