To the Editor:
Mesana and colleagues [1] have provided a description of a technique for annular plication when there has been extensive resection of the posterior leaflet. Although we applaud the authors for their detailed description, it must be noted that this technique has already been described in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery by Barlow and colleagues [2]. Indeed, the technique described by Barlow and colleagues [2] has been referenced in a case report that involved a 7-cm quadrangular resection of the posterior mitral valve leaflet [3], and has been labeled as the "Wells sliding plasty." As such, we believe it is fitting that the technique described by Mesana and colleagues [1] should credit the work of Mr Wells [2].
