DR LESLIE HAMILTON (Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK): Congratulations on your improving surgical results; these are very good figures. I particularly appreciated your comments on the place of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the treatment of infants with diaphragmatic hernia, and we share your frustrations in working that out. For that reason, in the United Kingdom we are currently undertaking a national multicenter randomized trial of ECMO in neonates, and we are going to look at babies with diaphragmatic hernias as a separate group. We hope that trial will report in 1996 and so we will be able to share those data with you.
