The results of this study by Cao and colleagues [1] indicate that PTPN12 expression evaluated by immunohistochemistry analysis can be categorized into low and high dichotomous variables and that these variables independently correlate with survival outcomes. As indicated, the results are mainly relevant in the subgroup of patients who were American Joint Committee on Cancer, Seventh Edition, stage II, but they do not really apply to the more advanced subgroup of stage III patients.
