To the Editor:
I thank Dr Lindner [1] for his interest in our study [2]. Before I comment, I would like to define the terminology. Pseudohyponatremia is an erroneously low measurement of sodium because of interference with laboratory tests by extraordinarily high lipid or protein levels. This condition is distinct from dilutional hyponatremia that is caused by hyperglycemia or mannitol administration. Actually hyponatremia induced by histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) solution is dilutional hyponatremia not pseudohyponatremia. As Dr Lindner pointed out,
