The first mini-cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with the minimal extracorporeal circulation system (Jostra MECC System; Jostra AG, Hirrlingen, Germany) performed in our institution was in 2001 [1]. Initially, we performed only coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with a system that was totally closed, without a vent. The left ventricle was not always vented.
