    Introduction
 
The Forty-Fourth Annual Meeting of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) will be held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale–Broward County Convention Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, January 28–30, 2008, preceded by STS/AATS Tech-Con 2008 on Saturday, January 26, and Sunday, January 27. The meeting is open to all physicians, residents, fellows, engineers, perfusionists, physician assistants, nurses, or other interested individuals. Both members and nonmembers are urged to register in advance. Meeting attendees will be provided with the latest scientific information for practicing cardiothoracic surgeons.

The Workforce on Annual Meeting Program Task Force was pleased with the response to this year’s abstract call, receiving almost 815 abstract and surgical video submissions. The high quality of the abstract submissions made it possible for the Workforce to develop a program that represents all aspects of adult and congenital cardiac and general thoracic surgery.

On Monday afternoon, there will be four Parallel Surgical Forums titled "Adult Cardiac," "General Thoracic," "Congenital," and "Practice Education." These Forums will run from 1:30 PM–3:30 PM.

On Tuesday afternoon, there will be five Parallel Surgical Forums that will run from 1:45 PM–5:45 PM. The five Parallel Surgical Forums will be, "Adult Cardiac I," "Adult Cardiac II," "General Thoracic I," "General Thoracic II," and "Congenital."

The popular breakfast sessions will be held Tuesday morning. The topics include Retirement and the Aging Surgeon; Money on the Table; Robotics; The Aging Congenital Patient; Advances in Thoracic Surgery: Endoscopic Management of Barrett’s Esophagus; Advances in Thoracic Surgery: Update on VATS Lobectomy; and Endovascular Surgery and Hybrid OR Models.
