We commend Enatsu and colleagues [1] on their large study demonstrating the prognostic importance of preoperative and postoperative pleural lavage cytology (PLC) in operable nonsmall cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). Prospective evaluations of almost 1,200 patients for 10 years at a single institution are a massive exercise, and the authors deserve to be congratulated on their perseverance.
