Gastric varices formed in a patient who had undergone a total cavopulmonary
shunt operation 7 years previously. The varices were found to be due to
development of collaterals from high-pressure systemic vein to low-pressure
portal vein. Bleeding gastric varix can be a late complication of total
cavopulmonary shunt.
