Surgical cure of cardiac arrhythmia. 1969
JH Lemmer Jr
Department of Surgery, University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa City.
The first surgical procedure undertaken for the intended purpose of curing
a patient with recurrent tachycardia was performed by Sealy in 1968, and
the report of that operation was published in The Annals of Thoracic
Surgery in 1969. The first attempted accessory bundle ablation was
successful, marked the beginning of cardiac arrhythmia surgery, and has set
the standard against which other methods of arrhythmia control must be
measured.
