In Proper Perspective: Daniel Hale Williams, M.D.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was the first black physician to be a charter member and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 1893, he successfully sutured a pericardial laceration resulting from a stab wound to the heart. His patient recovered completely.
