Management of the calcified aorta: an alternative method of occlusion

DM Cosgrove

Clamping an atherosclerotic aorta during a cardiac operation exposes the patient to the risk of embolization of atherosclerotic debris. A method of internal occlusion using a Foley catheter is described that minimizes both trauma to the aorta and the associated risks of embolization.
