A simple technique for insertion and removal of an intraaortic balloon catheter is described. We have used it in 20 patients in the past six months, and the incidence of thrombi around the junction of the Dacron patch and the artery has been lessened. The presence of a foreign body can be avoided also. We have not encountered any incidence of regional vascular compromise.
