A simplified plastic repair for aortic dissection is described. The operation consists of noncircumferential resection of the aortic segment containing the intimal tear, leaving the posterior wall intact. The false lumen is obliterated by oversewing both lips of the aortic incision. Aortic continuity is restored either by primary closure or by the insertion of a diamond-shaped prosthetic patch. The simplified plastic procedure shortens cardiopulmonary bypass time and reduces bleeding from suture lines. The operation was employed in 2 patients with success.
