Several helpful technical features are presented that reduce the morbidity associated with subclavian vein catheterization. These techniques include percutaneous insertion through an indwelling catheter, repositioning the catheter without a second puncture, and securing the catheter without kinking or dislodgment. Use of these techniques will spare the patient the risks attendant to multiple subclavian punctures.
