In 6 specimens of hearts with transposition of the great arteries the right atrial appendage was bifid with partial juxtaposition. Study of these specimens revealed that the os of the juxtaposed appendages occupies the anterior portion of the atrial septum, as viewed from the right atrium. The tubular proximal portion is limited by the main pulmonary artery and valve anteriorly and interiorly, the left pulmonary artery superiorly, and the anteromedial wall of the left atrium posteriorly.
